About Milo's Bravest Friends
Helping the cats others overlook become the cats everyone falls in love with.
Milo's Bravest Friends is a Connecticut-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue dedicated to giving medically complex, disabled, and special-needs cats the second chances they deserve.
Founded in honor of our cat Milo, a once-paralyzed kitten who defied the odds after a diagnosis of neurological FIP, our rescue exists because we know that a diagnosis is not a death sentence. Every day, we advocate for the cats who are too often overlooked: the paralyzed kittens, the wobbly cats, the hospice seniors, the trauma survivors, and the medical mysteries.
We believe every cat deserves the opportunity to heal, to be loved, and to live a life filled with comfort, dignity, and joy.
At Milo's Bravest Friends, we provide intensive medical care, rehabilitation, physical therapy, hospice support, foster care, and adoption services for cats with complex needs. Many of the cats who come through our doors require daily medications, mobility support, bladder expression, wound care, physical therapy, specialist consultations, or long-term medical management. Some stay with us for weeks, others for months, and a few become permanent residents. No matter their journey, every cat receives individualized care and a community that believes in them.
What began as one cat's fight for survival has grown into a mission to help countless others. Since opening our doors, we have welcomed cats facing paralysis, cerebellar hypoplasia, FIP, traumatic injuries, congenital disabilities, chronic illnesses, hospice diagnoses, and everything in between.
We are a volunteer-powered rescue operating out of West Haven, Connecticut. Every donation, volunteer hour, supply contribution, and adoption application directly impacts the lives of the cats in our care.
Our goal isn't simply to rescue cats. It's to challenge assumptions about what disabled and medically complex animals can achieve. We want people to see what we see every day: resilience, joy, determination, and lives that are absolutely worth fighting for.
Thank you for being part of this journey and for helping us give every one of our bravest friends the chance they deserve.
Our Story
We're Sara and Ryann Nieves, Milo's moms, founders of Milo's Bravest Friends, and proud moms to every cat who comes through our doors. What started as a journey to save one paralyzed cat, Milo, quickly became a mission to advocate for the animals others overlook. Today, our home is filled with special-needs, medically complex, hospice, and disabled cats, each with their own story and their own place in our family. While Sara oversees the day-to-day medical care, rehabilitation, and rescue operations, and Ryann somehow keeps everything running behind the scenes, the truth is that Milo's Bravest Friends is built on a shared belief: every cat deserves a chance, no matter their diagnosis. We may be the faces behind the rescue, but our real job is simply helping these incredible cats write their next chapter.

Our Approach
At Milo's Bravest Friends, we believe healing is about more than treating a diagnosis—it's about caring for the whole cat. Our holistic approach combines traditional veterinary medicine with rehabilitation, enrichment, nutrition, and individualized supportive care to help every cat achieve their best possible quality of life. Depending on their needs, our cats may receive physical therapy, mobility support, acupuncture, photobiomodulation (LED light therapy), hyperbaric oxygen therapy, wound care, nutritional support, environmental modifications, behavioral enrichment, and hospice or palliative care. We work closely with veterinarians and specialists while also focusing on the emotional well-being of each cat, creating safe, loving environments where they can build confidence, heal, and thrive. Every treatment plan is tailored to the individual because no two cats, and no two journeys, are exactly alike.
